Review : Salsa Fiesta (Pembroke Pines)

Located in a brand new shopping center in Pembroke Pines, lies this new “hip & trendy” Mexican restaurant. It’s called Salsa Fiesta.

We know the one in Miami has been opened for a while now, but the new one in Pembroke Pines recently opened a couple months ago.

We decided to go pay it a visit to see what it was all about.

Once you walk thru the doors, their outstanding modern, hip, trendy decor, and their ‘hip’ music greet you. Plus don’t forget about their world famous salsa bar.

You then get in line, grab a menu and try to figure out what you want to eat. The menu has everything from tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, soups, salads, burritos, quesadillas, and nachos. Let’s not forget the margaritas, beer, wine, dessert, and my favorite the ‘Hot Tamale Salsa.’

So, it was finally our turn to order and we went with the ‘Chicken Fiesta Fajita, Mexicano Burrito,’ an order of the ‘Hot Tamale Salsa’ and their signature beer ‘Agave Wheat,’ which is brewed on-site.

After ordering, you find a table and they give you a card to place on the table, which lets employees know what table to deliver too. Pretty cool if you ask me.

We first got the ‘Hot Tamale Salsa,’ which comes with chips. The flavor of the Hot Tamale Salsa is something that is unexplainable. So good, so rich, so different. I would say this is one of my favorite dishes on the menu. I have never had anything like it and I highly recommend this.

We then got our ‘Chicken Fiesta Fajitas’ and the ‘Mexicano Burrito.’

The ‘Chicken Fiesta Fajitas’ comes with chicken, roasted onions and peppers, and a side of sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo with your choice of flour, corn or whole-wheat tortillas. With the fajitas, you also have the option to substitute the roasted onions and peppers for mushrooms and sautéed onions, which we did.

The ‘Chicken Fiesta Fajita’ is pretty much like your average fajitas you find anywhere else. You get plenty of chicken, sour cream, and guacamole, but their pico de gallo is out of this world. If you like fajitas, you won’t be disappointed with this dish.

We then got our ‘Mexicano Burrito.’

All burritos come with your choice of chicken, beef, carnitas, steak, fish, or veggies. The ‘Mexicano Burrito’ comes with beans, roasted corn, onions, cilantro, Monterey jack and cheddar cheese. You also get a choice of flour or whole-wheat tortillas and either brown or cilantro-lime rice.

The tacos and burritos are available to get as a solo or platter. Solo contains just the burrito and the platter comes with pico de gallo and chips.

We got the ‘Mexicano Burrito’ platter with steak and cilantro-lime rice. This is not your average burrito; it’s very flavorful. All the flavors coming together in this burrito make it easily one of my favorites. The steak was marinated and cooked perfectly. The cilantro-lime rice was awesome, (even though Chipotle will always have my favorite cilantro-lime rice.) There’s no question, Salsa Fiesta does this burrito right. As I ate my way thru the burrito, I began to put some pico de gallo and left over ‘Hot Tamale Salsa’ in my burrito. This made it even better, bite-by-bite. This burrito is definitely one not to be missed.

(After checking out the menu again, before leaving we noticed they have a ‘Hot Tamale Burrito,’ which we will definitely try next time.)

Let’s not forget the salsa bar! There was a lava salsa, which consisted of red cabbage, a tamarind salsa, salsa verde, and a regular red salsa. To be honest, we totally forgot about it and will give you a full review next time we go back. Oops!

Overall, Salsa Fiesta is pretty darn good Mexican food. We understand it’s not really authentic, but who cares it tastes good and doesn’t put weight on your wallet. We recommend you check out Salsa Fiesta in Miami or Pembroke Pines; you won’t be disappointed!
